Gone is the Gold

Remember the frames and mirrors I bought at the estate sale a few months back?

Well, Saturday, I got up early and headed to the garage before it hit 100 degrees, and began transforming these beauties. I was a little worried because the back of the spray paint can said not to use it in temperatures over 90 degrees. I'm pretty sure it was already at or close to 90 degrees by 10 a.m. I was worried it might affect the results but ...

I'm happy to say the project was a success!

I especially love how the detail of the mirrors turned out.

I also decided to spray paint the frame my bridal portrait was in. As you'll remember, it has been sitting on the floor of my bedroom since we moved in.

I could have just put some newspaper over the glass and been done with it, but instead, I wanted to take the pic and glass out. Well, this proved to be a bad idea because the corner  of the glass broke as I was getting it out. So, it's looking like I'll either be buying a new piece of glass or looking for a new frame.

I plan to do the other frame from our wedding (also sitting on the floor as seen in the pic above) but didn't get around to it this weekend.

These will all eventually be going on the wall in my bedroom along with my yarn letter. But I'm hoping to paint my bedroom first. This is what my bedroom wall has looked like for over two months.

And this is "third generation." It doesn't even reflect the paint samples that have already gone up and been vetoed. I've literally grabbed every green-blue color from Lowe's, Home Depot and Sherwin Williams. Finally, after much debate, I have made a choice. 

We're going with the middle color -- Valspar's La Fonda Mirage. The color is from their National Trust for Historic Preservation series, and this particular color is named after Santa Fe's La Fonda Hotel. That's not why I picked it ... I really just like the color. But, it's good to know.

The picture above doesn't really sow the color best. Hopefully I'll have it on the wall soon so you can see it better. 

Estate Sale Goodies

I was so excited last week when I received an email telling me there would be an Estate Sale near my house over the weekend (you may remember I put myself on the mailing list at the last Estate Sale). Knowing that last time I went on Friday when there were still plenty of good items, I knew getting to this one early was key. 

So during my lunch break last Friday, two of my co-workers joined me for the Estate Sale. There were still lots of things being offered. A few items caught my eye including an antique looking mirror and an antique tea cart. Unfortunately, both were priced a little more than I wanted to spend. Plus, after speaking with those hosting the sale, I found out that everything would be 25 percent off on Saturday. So, I thought I'd take my chances and see if they were still there when I came back. I went with the, "If it's meant to be" mentality. But, I did go ahead and purchase this:

It's only about 15 inches long and five inches wide, but I was drawn to the uniqueness of it. I thought it was $8, but when I got ready to pay, the woman informed me that what I thought was a dollar sign was really a one! So, it was $18, but apparently, I looked pitiful when they told me this news because they were generous and gave it to me for $8.

When I went to see if the tea cart and antique mirror were still there, I was not really surprised to find that they were not. Oh, well. I guess it was not meant to be. But, I went back again on Sunday and everything was 50 percent off! Sure, there wasn't much left, but I managed to score some great finds for just a little over $11.

I know they don't look like much now, but my plan is to spray paint everything bought at the Estate Sale and use it on a wall in my bedroom. I'm hoping the end product looks a little something like this:

I was proud of myself for seeing the potential in these items. A few months ago, I probably would have passed them by as junk. I probably shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch considering my plan could fail, but I have my spray paint and am hoping to get to work on this, this weekend.

Estate Sale

Landon and I went to an Estate Sale on Friday. I loved it! I think I'm going to make this my new hobby.

This particular sale was for a couple who clearly didn't throw anything away. There were so many great finds, though many were overpriced for us. But, we did come away with a few new things. 

Landon found some authentic German nutcrackers and smokers. His grandmother began a tradition of giving him a nutcracker when he was younger. Now his collection is quite large, but when he saw these, he decided he needed to add them to his collection.

I actually found a lot of things I would have loved to have but held back. What I did find though, were these perfect things for my sunroom.

These shells are huge, and I can't wait to display them in some vases and bowls. I think they will be a great addition.

I can't wait for future estate sales. Just walking through someone's home, you can discover great things about who they might have been. It's pretty fascinating.  I actually signed up to be on the company's email list for future sales so I really do expect to go to more.
